If loyalty were the yardstick used to
judge football fans, then Manchester United fans Deola Gbadebo, Chidiebere
Nwosu, Emmanuel Euba, Anthony Nwumeh and Sunday
Augustine, who made up the Fortune Red Team on this week’s Star Football
Superfans deserve the tag ‘Superfans’.
The quintet, rather than wallow in
self pity, geared up and produced a rousing performance on the 'Show Your
Passion' segment despite having just gone 2-0 down to Gunners FC and knowing
that the game had been lost. It was a truly beautiful footballing 'Kodak'
moment.
Gunners FC, which comprised Onyeka
Iloka, Siedu Akeem, Samuel Onuoha, Tosin Adeleye and Kadiri Adebayo on their
part showed no mercy to the unlucky Fortune Reds as Onyeka came up with an even
better performance which won the crowd's vote to put the final score at 3-0.
It had been a close game in truth,
but Gunners FC had been just that little bit better and were deserved winners
of the N 1m star prize while the gallant Fortune Reds went home with the N100,
000 consolation prize.
Commenting on the outcome, Kufre
Ekanem, Corporate Affairs Adviser, Nigerian Breweries, said, “For the past nine
weeks, this is the kind of excitement that Star Football Superfans has brought
to football fans across Nigeria. The excitement the show brings to the minds of
football lovers all over the country has proved that indeed fans are as
important as the players on the pitch and we at Star are proud to be giving
them a platform to express themselves’
Sponsored by Star Lager beer, Star
Football Superfans is a TV game show that seeks to test the knowledge and
passion of football fans across Nigeria and rewarding them in the process.
